I read a blog post today that I've seen many times from all kinds of blogs and people, and I've finally decided to post something about it.
Last night my sisters and I went to see The Conjuring, if you haven't heard of it yet you probably live under a rock, but basically it's your average horror flick filled with pop-outs, a creepy doll and a few exorcisms. I enjoyed the movie and even though horror movies never seem to scare me anymore, there were some good scenes of creepiness that gave me chills.
Now if you've ever been to a scary movie in theaters the day it comes out, you probably know that the movie will almost always be completely ruined by screaming girls, friends trying to scare each other, and a that crying kid who is obviously way too young to watch the movie. Yes, these kinds of people are annoying and ruin the movie for everyone else, but the posts I've read about the "scary movie experience" absolutely get on my nerves, because every one of them complain about how horrible the audience was and how they either left early or hate the movie because of it. This is the most ridiculous complaint I've ever heard.
When a scary movie comes out in theaters the first few days of the release always attract teenagers. It's human nature, it's like they can't help but go to these movies and act like complete idiots. It can't be change, and no amount of articles or blog posts will convince these people to shut up while watching a movie. So I have to wonder why, on God's green earth, someone who needs absolute silence would go to a movie on the opening days. I went two and a half weeks before I saw the movie, we were sitting in a small theater, with only two other couples watching the film. The theater was silent and it made the experience much more enjoyable and scary.
So to anyone who has complained about watching a movie with a crap audience, I suggest you exercise some self-control and wait another week so you can enjoy your movie in silence. Patience is a trait that teenagers don't seem to possess, and I guarantee that if you have the patience to wait to see the movie, all the loud and inconsiderate teenagers will not be in the same theater as you. I hope that if you're reading this you will never post a complaint about a theater audience in the future, or if you already have, you'll take my advice and just wait a few weeks.
